The Department of Homeland Security has published its five-year information technology strategic plan to align the cross-functional and cross-organizational goals and priorities when it comes to digital modernization.
The 2024-2028 IT Strategic Plan includes investing in training and development opportunities for the DHS’ IT workforce and leading the responsible use of artificial intelligence, the agency said Thursday.
DHS vowed to strengthen data sharing across its offices as well as with external partners to prepare for threats. It is also prioritizing the transformation and innovation of its service delivery to improve customer experience.
The department plans to follow private sector practices in system modernization, involving a measured, incremental and iterative approach instead of decommissioning legacy systems when next-generation versions are launched.
According to the strategy, DHS will continuously update its Unified Cybersecurity Maturity Model and incorporate it into resource planning so that all of its divisions can keep up with the changing maturity levels.
