The U.S. Navy has awarded Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) an 18-month, $194.8 million contract modification to continue advance planning for the refueling and complex overhaul of the USS George Washington nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.
The modification extends the company’s services through August 2017 and seeks to address engineering and production labor requirements for the CVN 73 remediation effort, the Defense Departmentsaid Friday.
Huntington Ingalls will continue to perform ship checks, design, documentation, engineering and fabrication support services as well as preliminary shipyard preparations for the RCOH program.
Work will occur in Newport News, Virginia and the Navy will obligate 194.6 million at the time of award from fiscal year 2016 shipbuilding, conversion, operations and maintenance funds.
DoD noted $1.2 million in contract funds will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
