Huntington Ingalls Industries‘s (NYSE: HII) Newport News Shipbuilding division has received a $179.9 million U.S. Navy contract modification to obtain an additional long-lead-time material for the construction of a Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier.
The Navy issued the modification to definitize efforts under a previously announced contract action and to increase the scope of work on the USS Enterprise(CVN 80), the Defense Departmentsaid Monday.
DoD noted the service branch will use fiscal 2018 shipbuilding and conversion funds to cover the full obligated amount at the time of award.
Newport News Shipbuilding will conduct work under the modification in Virginia through February 2027.
Enterprise will be the third aircraft carrier of the Navy’s Ford class.
