A subsidiary of Harris Corp. (NYSE: HRS) will supply two Cross-track Infrared Sounder instruments for two upcoming Joint Polar Satellite System follow-on missions under a $316 million contract modification from NASA.
NASA said ThursdayExelis will manufacture and test the CrIS instruments for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration‘s JPSS-3 and JPSS-4 and provide launch and post-launch services.
The modification brings the total value of NASA’s contract with Exelis to $701.2 million and extends support through the 18 months following JPSS-4’s launch.
CrIS will work to support NOAA’s weather forecasting operations, NASA added.
