A General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) subsidiary has landed a one-year, $434.4M contract to perform lead yard support, design efforts and development studies on the U.S. Navy’s Virginia-class attack submarines.
General Dynamics Electric Boat will help the service branch maintain and update submarine designs and related data as part of construction and post-shakedown availability phases, the Department of Defense said Friday.
Work will also involve prototyping and engineering development tasks necessary to evaluate new technology for insertion into the underwater vessels.
Naval Sea Systems Command awarded the contract on a sole-source basis and will obligate $68.3M at the time of award.
Contract work will occur in Rhode Island, Virginia and Connecticut through September 2020.
