General Atomics has purchased Fredericksburg, Virginia-based Syntronics for an undisclosed sum in a move to gain access to the latter company™s knowledge and experience in the development of electromechanical technology platforms.
General Atomics said Monday it made the acquisition to expand the company’s footprint in Virginia and will run Syntronics as part of its electromagnetic systems group.
Syntronics manufactures missile guidance systems, projectiles, ground-based and inflight shock resistant instrumentation systems and other electromechanical platforms.
Scott Forney, president of General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems, said the company has worked with Syntronics to build the guidance electronics unit and related systems for the railgun hypersonic projectiles.
Forney added Syntronics™ experience in the design of telemetry and electronics packages that work to withstand high G environments would help General Atomics advance development of railgun-launched hypervelocity projectiles and missile platforms.
