Gen. Mark Milley, Soldiers Perform Rescue Operation in Washington Car-Bus Collision

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley and his four military aides were among the first individuals to perform first aid and rescue operation when a passenger vehicle collided with a mass transit bus on the night of Oct. 12 in southeast Washington, D.C., ABC News reported Thursday.

Luis Martinez writes Milley and his staff encountered the accident between a Metrobus and a car on Suitland Parkway while in a two-car convoy on their way to Fort Myer in Virginia.

The crash left one person dead and three others injured, NBC Washington reported Friday.

A source told NBC Washington that Milley helped lead the rescue mission and perform first aid to crash victims.

Army Lt. Col. Rob Shaw said two of Milley™s military aides helped pull one crash victim from the car before the vehicle caught fire and the two other service personnel offered first aid assistance to the surviving individual, according to the report.

Milley previously served as head of the Army Forces Command before he assumed his role as the service branch™s chief of staff in August 2015.
