General Electric (NYSE: GE) has received a one-year, $91.6 million contract option from the U.S. Navy to provide 24 full-rate production F414-GE-400 engines for installation into the service branch’s F/A-18E/F aircraft.
The Defense Departmentsaid Tuesday the Naval Air Systems Command will obligate the full amount of the exercised option from the service branch’s fiscal 2017 aircraft procurement funds.
Work will occur in Kentucky, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont through August 2018.
F414-GE-400 engines are designed to increase thrust capacity of Boeing-built (NYSE: BA) F/A-18E/F Super Hornets by approximately 35 percent and help manage the aircraft’s fuel consumption.
