The U.S. Army has awarded a $154 million contract to General Electric‘s (NYSE: GE) aviation segment and a $102 million contract to Advanced Turbine Engine Co. to conduct preliminary design reviews for an updated helicopter turbine engine technology.
The Defense Departmentsaid Monday the companies will assess the design of the engine for potential use on UH-60 Blackhawk and AH-64E Apache helicopters.
DoD added work will occur through Aug. 21, 2018 at the contractors’ facilities.
The Army Contracting Command will obligate $20.8 million to ATEC and $17.9 million to GE at the time of the award of the contracts from the service branch’s fiscal 2016 research, development, test and evaluation funds.
