The FBI has awarded Leidos a $128 million task order to modernize the Next Generation Identification system, the world’s largest electronic repository of biometric and criminal history data.

In a press release published Monday, Leidos said it will provide agile software development, biometric algorithms, mobile applications, automated testing capabilities and integration of emerging technologies. The effort aims to advance the NGI system’s investigative capabilities for the FBI and other law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
NGI Capabilities
Administered by the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services division, NGI is used to manage fingerprint, facial recognition and other biometric data crucial to criminal investigations. Leidos previously worked with the FBI to improve NGI’s fingerprint identification accuracy to over 99.6 percent.
“Leidos’ work with the FBI to improve the system’s accuracy facilitates many more criminal identifications, helping to keep America safe,” said Roy Stevens, president of Leidos’ National Security Sector and a two-time Wash100 Award recipient.
The contract includes a one-year base period and four option years.
