Ericsson Federal has appointed Patrick Gorman, a veteran cybersecurity and intelligence executive, as chief technology officer.
What Will Gorman Do at Ericsson Federal?
In his new role, Ericsson Federal said Gorman will guide the company’s technology strategy and support the delivery of secure communications offerings to U.S. government customers. He will also direct efforts to align Ericsson Federal’s technical capabilities with commercial advancements to meet government objectives and contract requirements.
Christopher Ling, CEO of Ericsson Federal, said Gorman brings experience in intelligence, cybersecurity and national defense to the company.
“As we bring advanced commercial communications capabilities to federal agencies, his leadership and firsthand understanding of our nation’s most critical missions will be invaluable,” Ling added.
Who Is Patrick Gorman?
Gorman is a technology and national security executive with more than 40 years of experience in the public and private sectors. Before joining Ericsson Federal, he was an executive vice president at Booz Allen Hamilton, where he oversaw the firm’s 5G and cyber business and ran its Dark Labs cyber incubator and Bright Labs digital incubator.
His earlier private-sector positions include head of strategy and product at CyberGRX, chief security officer at Bridgewater Associates, and global chief information security officer at Bank of America/Merrill Lynch.
In government, Gorman was assistant director of national intelligence and chief information officer for the U.S. intelligence community. He also helped stand up the Transportation Security Administration after the Sept. 11 attacks and contributed to Pentagon doctrine on network-centric warfare and cyberwarfare. Gorman spent more than 10 years in the U.S. Air Force, working in electronic warfare, signals intelligence and psychological operations.
He holds degrees from the University of Maryland and George Washington University, completed an executive program at Harvard Business School, and graduated from the Defense Language Institute. Gorman also sits on the boards of several organizations focused on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and privacy.
What Is Ericsson Federal?
Established in 2024, Ericsson Federal is a Vienna, Virginia-based company that adapts Ericsson’s commercial 5G and 6G network technologies, including AI and machine learning capabilities, for U.S. national security, homeland security and defense customers.
Since its launch, Ericsson Federal has built out its leadership team, appointing former Federal Communications Commission Commissioner Nathan Simington as director of policy and strategy and naming Melissa Milstead chief legal officer. The company has also secured a prime position on the Missile Defense Agency’s $151 billion SHIELD contract supporting the Golden Dome for America initiative, and supported Ericsson’s live demonstration of integrated sensing and communication technology in Plano, Texas.
In a recent GovCon Conversation video interview, Ericsson Federal CEO Christopher Ling said the company is working with Nokia and other partners to establish a commercial consortium that would deliver turnkey, integrated technology capabilities to government customers.
