Artificial intelligence software maker C3.ai has received a potential five-year, $95M contract from the Department of Defense's innovation arm to provide an AI-based technology for aircraft maintenance use.
The company said Wednesday it will provide the C3 Readiness for Aircraft software to help military branches and federal agencies monitor aircraft subsystems and prevent system failures.
C3 Readiness for Aircraft is designed to provide users real-time visibility of components and help them predict requirements for logistics personnel at air depots and bases.
The application runs on the C3 AI Suite used to integrate large amounts of data through machine learning and support enterprise-wide deployment in public and private cloud environments.
“Each hour an aircraft is grounded costs taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars – and approximately $292 billion of the Pentagon’s annual budget is spent on operations and maintenance costs,” said Ed Abbo‚ president and chief technology officer of C3.ai.
“Given these numbers, even a fractional increase in aircraft mission capability can save billions," Abbo added.
Redwood City, Calif.-based C3.ai offers AI software for various applications including predictive maintenance, energy management, fraud detection, sensor network health and supply network optimization.
