The Department of Defense has signed $84.4M in agreements with seven companies under the Defense Production Act Title III to retain employees and strengthen domestic industrial base capabilities in small unmanned aerial systems, shipbuilding and space technology sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
DoD said Friday five companies working on small UAS secured $13.4M in DPA Title III funds through the Defense Innovation Unit’s Commercial Solutions Opening program to create 20 jobs, retain 14 employees and further develop their technologies.
The companies and the amount of their respective contracts are listed below.
AirMap – $3.3M
Graffiti Enterprises – $1.5M
ModalAI – $3M
Obsidian Sensors – $1.6M
Skydio – $4M
Chicago-based ArcelorMittal secured a $56M agreement from the Pentagon and will use it to protect jobs and expand its heat-treating capacity, plate processing footprint and other critical shipbuilding capabilities.
LeoLabs will use a $15M investment from DoD to maintain and operate its phased-array radar network in order to ensure the viability of space surveillance capability.
