Suri Durvasula, leader of federal sales at Dell Technologies, said breaking down legacy silos could help federal agencies scale and adopt artificial intelligence securely to improve decision-making, speed up service delivery and anticipate mission requirements.

“Today, we’re seeing agencies move from AI pilots to production by modernizing storage, compute and edge environments; updating cyber protections; and adopting open, interoperable architectures that support sovereign control of data and workloads, Durvasula said in an interview published on Carahsoft.com. “These shifts dramatically increase both agility and mission impact.”

How Do Modern Technologies Support AI Readiness?

Durvasula said containerization gives agencies a secure and portable way to shift workloads across on-premises, multicloud and hybrid environments, as well as the flexibility to advance innovation while tailoring security policies to the sensitivity of specific data and workloads.

He also highlighted the importance of modernizing the data layer to support AI, machine learning and advanced analytics capabilities.

What Challenges Agencies Could Face in Modernizing Legacy Systems?

According to Durvasula, legacy systems remain central to federal operations because they process citizen data and support defense, national security and benefits delivery missions.

“They aren’t designed for today’s cyberthreat environment, and they limit agencies’ ability to take advantage of emerging capabilities like artificial intelligence, automation and advanced analytics,” he said.

Durvasula stated that modernization efforts require agencies to upgrade infrastructure, strengthen security protections and improve data readiness while maintaining continuity of operations.

How Does Dell Support Federal Modernization Efforts?

According to Durvasula, Dell helps agencies by providing technologies and services spanning servers, client devices, storage, cybersecurity, networking, supercomputing and AI systems.

Instead of relying on multiple vendors, he said the company’s integrated and interoperable offerings enable agencies to modernize through a single task order.

“Our team helps agencies map modernization roadmaps, design open and sovereign architectures, deploy secure AI environments, and accelerate the shift from experimentation to operational capability,” he noted.

Durvasula said Dell’s modernization efforts focus on supporting mission operations, improving access to data, enhancing citizen services and strengthening security capabilities across the federal government.
