Cameron Chehreh
Cameron Chehreh, chief operating officer and chief technology officer of Dell EMCs federal business, has said government agencies seeking to gain insights from collected data to facilitate the decision-making process and build up citizen services should first focus on the mission outcome.
Chehreh wrote that agencies should frequently reconsider their mission statements amid shifting budgets and changes in priorities.
With your mission in mind, you are better prepared to select the most relevant data, he added.
Agencies should modernize their data infrastructure through migration to a converged or hyper-converged architecture and implementation of a data lake or an approach that works to consolidate siloed information repositories into a software-based data warehouse that is both cloud-ready and scalable, Chehreh noted.
A data lake allows analysts to use modern data analytics tools to examine all relevant data, he said.
He also called on agencies to assess the application layer that helps facilitate data access and upgrade applications through the use of DevOps and agile strategies to help streamline communications with big data analytics platforms and data lakes.
