Comtech Telecommunications (Nasdaq: CMTL) has acquired a General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) business that offered a 9-1-1 emergency communications system to state and local government clients.
Comtech said Monday it added 60 employees as a result of the Next Generation 911 acquisition from General Dynamics’ information technology segment and secured a potential five-year, $100M contract to develop a cloud-based NG-911 platform for a northeastern state.
The Melville, N.Y.-based telecommunications firm is scheduled to begin contract work on Aug. 4 and will help the customer implement and manage the system.
NG-911 employs an internet protocol method and transmits emergency service requests from multiple public networks via different modes of communication or devices.
Comtech intends to provide details on the contract award and acquisition effort at the company’s next fiscal quarter earnings call.
