CBP Moves Customs Duties Collection Processing Tech to IBM Cloud; Sam Gordy Quoted

The Customs and Border Protection migrated its Automated Commercial System™s collections processing functions to IBM™s (NYSE: IBM) SmartCloud for Government platform in June as part of efforts to achieve cost savings and reduce its physical information technology infrastructure, Nextgov reported Friday.

ACS allows CBP to process, control and monitor all imported goods. In 2018, the agency collected and processed customs duties worth more than $41B using the system. Sam Gordy, general manager for IBM™s federal business, said the cloud migration marks CBP™s adoption of œmainframe-as-a-service model, which allows agencies to move complex processes to the cloud.
