Boeing Lands $173M Air Force Contract for Additional MH-139A Helicopters

Boeing has secured a U.S. Air Force contract worth more than $173 million to produce eight more MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters and provide sustainment and training support for the service branch.

The aerospace and defense contractor said Wednesday the award brings the total number of helicopters under contract with the Air Force to 34.

In April, the Air Force awarded Boeing a $178 million contract to build and deliver seven MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters.

Under the Lot 3 award, Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota is set to receive the first set of aircraft.

“The MH-139A offers increased speed, range and payload capacity critical to supporting U.S. national security missions,” said Azeem Khan, MH-139 program director at Boeing. “We look forward to delivering these advanced aircraft to bases across the country.”

According to Boeing, the Air Force recently concluded initial operational test and evaluation flights for the MH-139A aircraft as the program advances toward initial operational capability.

To date, the company has delivered 18 MH-139As, including 12 low-rate initial production helicopters. Boeing wrapped up deliveries for the first operational unit at Malmstrom AFB in Montana and expects to deliver four more helicopters to the Air Force this year.
