BAE Systems has secured a potential six-year, $2.68B contract to manufacture lot 8 through lot 12 of a laser-guided weapon system for the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Army as well as nine countries to fulfill foreign military sales requirements.
The company will provide Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System II WGU-59/B units to transform the current 2.75-inch rocket technology into a semi-active weapon under the firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.
APKWS is designed to reach targets with accuracy and minimize the risk of collateral damage. The system can be fired from fixed- or rotary-wing platforms.
The Pentagon expects BAE to finish contract work by December 2025.
International customers are Afghanistan, Australia, Iraq, the U.K., Jordan, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Tunisia and the Philippines.
