BAE Systems has received a two-year, $99.3M contract modification to supply the U.S. Navy and Japanese government with canisters designed for a naval missile launcher platform.
The company’s land and armaments unit will provide MK 41 Vertical Launching System canisters and ancillary hardware under the firm-fixed-price modification, the Department of Defense said Tuesday.
A VLS canister functions as a missile shipping container and a launch tube when loaded into system modules.
Eighty-five percent of contract purchases are for the Navy and the remining 15 percent are for Japan. Work will take place in Aberdeen, S.D., and Minneapolis, Minn., through April 2022.
The branch initially awarded BAE a $954.5M contract in February to manufacture and update canisters as well as provide spares and support equipment.
