Brian Meyer, federal field chief technology officer at Axonius Federal, said cybersecurity asset management could help government agencies make dozens of security tools work together and strengthen the enforcement of security policies.
Cybersecurity asset management “acts as the connective tissue by aggregating data from all the tools, normalizing it and giving teams a single source of truth. That means policies can be enforced consistently across the IT environment,” Meyer wrote in an article published on Carahsoft.com.
What Is the Importance of Visibility in Cybersecurity?
In this piece, the federal field CTO described visibility as the foundation of zero trust and other modern cybersecurity frameworks, emphasizing that “far from being optional, it’s the prerequisite for every other security control.”
Without full visibility into on-premises, cloud-based environments and Internet of Things systems, Meyer noted that blind spots can turn into vulnerabilities.
How Cybersecurity Asset Management Helps Agencies Address Security Gaps?
According to Meyer, tools like the Axonius cybersecurity asset management platform could help agencies close security gaps by connecting all operational and cybersecurity technologies into a single view, creating a common landscape across business units and presenting information in an easily readable format.
He also highlighted that the platform integrates with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation program, enabling automation across all six groups in the CDM framework for securing federal civilian networks.
Meyer added that the platform allows agencies to automatically validate security controls, maintain continuous compliance and detect unmanaged devices. Cybersecurity asset management tools, he said, can help agencies avoid being “stuck in reactive mode” by providing the necessary context to identify blind spots and other gaps before they escalate into incidents.
