Army Vet Sean MacFarland Takes VP Role at General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems Business

Sean MacFarland, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant general, has joined General Atomics as vice president of weapons program strategic development within the company’s electromagnetic systems group.

He will initially work at a company office in Washington, D.C., and will transfer to the group’s San Diego headquarters to lead transition of key technology platforms into the manufacturing phase, General Atomics said Tuesday.

MacFarland most recently served as the deputy commanding general and chief of staff at the Army Training and Doctrine Command and his more than 36-year military career has included overseas assignments, primarily in the Middle East and Europe.

He was principal architect of the U.S.-led Operation Inherent Resolve campaign against Islamic State militant organization over the 2015-2016 period.

He also works as an adjunct professor of security studies at Georgetown University™s Walsh School of Foreign Service, as well as a senior fellow at Harvard University™s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and at the Association of the U.S. Army™s Institute of Land Welfare.
