CAE‘s (NYSE: CAE) U.S. subsidiary has been awarded contract options of an undisclosed value to manufacture five more engine maintenance trainers for the U.S. Army’s M1A2 ground vehicles.
The service branch made the additional orders as CAE USA prepares to deliver the first such training system to the Armor School at Fort Benning in Georgia, the company said Monday.
Each trainer includes a driver station equipped with a live-engine technology to support diagnostic maintenance.
Ray Duquette, president and general manager of CAE USA, said the company will provide a system that offers “realistic and practical training experience for students before they proceed to maintaining engines on the Army™s fleet of Abrams main battle tanks.”
CAE noted its engine trainers contain over 80 simulated faults and automate the creation of training scenarios through an instructor operator station.
The company also developed courseware for the system and concluded the initial acceptance testing phase at a factory in Tampa, Fla.
The Army is scheduled to receive its first M1A2 engine maintenance trainer in November.
