Ameresco has won a potential 25-year, $210.6 million task order to help the U.S. Navy implement energy improvement and conservation measures at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina.
The Defense Departmentsaid Wednesday the company will provide a new combined heat and power plant, solar carport and ground mounted solar arrays and a battery energy storage system to MCRD.
The CHP will have a total capacity of 3.5 megawatts and the renewable systems are meant to offset electricity purchases from the base’s grid as well as deliver steam to the installation, according to DoD.
Ameresco will also support upgrade work on MCRD’s heating ventilation and air conditioning, chillers, water fixtures, steam traps, lighting and controls and laundry ozone systems under the task order.
DoD said that MCRD Parris Island agreed to finance the costs of construction and services from project funds that the contractor will obtain.
The Navy received 11 proposals for the task order and work will run through November 2041.
The 8, 095-acre MCRD has been used to train enlisted Marines since 1915.
