Alexis Bonnell, former emerging technology evangelist at Google‘s public sector business, has been named the inaugural chief information officer of the Air Force Research Laboratory and director of AFRL’s new digital capabilities directorate.
She will oversee the development of the lab’s digital capabilities and information technology infrastructure to meet the warfighting needs of air, space and cyberspace forces, AFRL said Thursday.
“With her visionary leadership and deep understanding of technology and how it can be harnessed to achieve mission success, she is poised to strengthen the culture of innovation and lead AFRL into a new era of digital capability,” said Brig. Gen. Scott Cain, commander of AFRL.
In her prior role, Bonnell helped Google’s government customers to adopt artificial intelligence and cloud computing platforms. She also held the time of strategic business executive at the technology company.
She previously was chief innovation officer at the U.S. Agency for International Development and co-founded USAID’s first innovation lab for addressing global and humanitarian challenges.
