Aerospace is combining its space and defense systems business segments into a single organization to align its end-to-end operations with the structure and strategic direction of its Department of Defense customers.
Marty Whelan, senior vice president of the defense systems group since 2018, will lead the integrated business unit, which will unify the federally funded research and development center’s efforts to address DOD’s mission and technology requirements, Aerospace said Thursday.
Kevin Bell, SVP of the space systems group, will assume responsibilities as head of the engineering and technology group upon the completion of the business integration.
Aerospace made a series of appointments within the unified Defense Systems Group, including Lara Schmidt, who will succeed Jay Santee as VP of defense architectures and integration, and Todd Nygren, who will head the new defense space acquisition organization.
Randy Kendall, VP of launch and architecture operations, will lead the business’ launch, missiles and mobility group, while Jamie Morin, VP of defense systems operations, will take over responsibility for the defense strategic space unit.
Kevin Keating, who held senior intelligence service roles in the CIA and National Reconnaissance Office, will join Aerospace in January as SVP of the national systems group.
