Detroit Defense has acquired Athenix Solutions Group to expand its systems integration and technology development capabilities for the defense and intelligence sectors.
What Does Athenix Bring to Detroit Defense?
In a press release published Thursday, Detroit Defense said the acquisition adds Athenix’s intelligence community and special operations expertise to its systems engineering and integration capabilities. Athenix supports the Department of War and the intelligence community with software development and engineering for mission-critical systems, as well as intelligence and cyber operations, analytics and mission execution. The deal also gives Detroit Defense access to Athenix’s special mission training and readiness services. According to Detroit Defense, the combined capabilities will support operations in complex and contested environments.

Pete Roney, president and CEO of Detroit Defense, said Athenix’s technical strength and mission understanding align with how his company operates. Roney further described Athenix as a “natural fit” for Detroit Defense.
Athenix CEO Gene Colabatistto said the transaction will allow Athenix to bring expanded capabilities to national security missions more quickly.
What Is Detroit Defense?
Detroit Defense is a national security firm that provides technical services, integrated logistics, sustainment support and advanced technologies for military customers. The company has been supporting Navy aviation maintenance systems under a five-year contract covering sustainment and modernization of the Standard Portable Electronic Maintenance Aid Cyber Solution, or SPECS 2.5.
Detroit Defense rebranded from Ricardo Defense in 2025 as part of efforts to broaden its focus on defense innovation, systems integration, digital logistics and mission readiness. The rebranding followed the company’s acquisition by Proteus Enterprises and Gladstone Investment.
