GreyNoise Intelligence has appointed Joe Lampert, a retired U.S. Army major and cyberthreat intelligence professional, as director of national security solutions.
The cybersecurity company said Wednesday Lampert is among four senior executives it has brought on board to advance its engagements with U.S. and allied government customers.
What Are Lampert’s Responsibilities at GreyNoise?
In his new role, Lampert leads the company’s national security solutions efforts and oversees its partnerships across the Department of War and the intelligence community, according to his LinkedIn profile. His work centers on helping national security organizations gain a clearer picture of activity occurring along the internet’s edge and apply GreyNoise’s visibility and threat intelligence to their missions.
GreyNoise said Lampert will help defense and intelligence customers use real-time threat data to counter threats before they can hit their intended targets.
Who Is Joe Lampert?
Lampert is a national security professional with more than 18 years of experience across cybersecurity, threat intelligence, consulting and leadership roles supporting defense and intelligence missions.
He is a retired U.S. Army major with more than 20 years of service, including intelligence and cyber warfare assignments supporting U.S. Cyber Command and U.S. Strategic Command. In an interview, Lampert told GovCon Wire he began as an enlisted mental health specialist before commissioning as a military intelligence officer and serving as an analyst and cyber warfare officer.
Before joining GreyNoise, he was a senior account director at Recorded Future, managing national security partnerships with the intelligence community, U.S. Cyber Command, DOW and the FBI. He said he helped secure Recorded Future’s selection as one of six vendors for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s Sentinel Horizon program, which delivers commercial threat intelligence across the intelligence community.
At Splunk, Lampert managed the company’s partnership with the Defense Intelligence Agency and helped move the agency to a new contract that expanded its use of the platform.
His background also includes national security roles at Verizon and the U.S. Army Reserve. He is a graduate of Indiana University Bloomington and has earned the Certified Information Systems Security Professional credential.
Cyberthreat Intelligence Programs Across Manufacturing & Financial Services
After leaving active duty, Lampert joined EY‘s cybersecurity advisory practice as a cyberthreat intelligence consultant, helping manufacturing and financial services clients establish and manage threat intelligence functions. His largest engagement was with Caterpillar, where he helped build a cyberthreat intelligence practice within the company’s computer emergency response team.
Understanding the Customer Mission
Asked about a lesson from his career, Lampert pointed to the value of understanding a customer’s mission before presenting any solution.
“It’s super important to understand what they’re trying to accomplish, how they’re trying to do it, and then maybe any gaps or challenges that they’re facing,” he said.
What Are Lampert’s Goals at GreyNoise?
Lampert’s goals at GreyNoise include working alongside national security partners to address the challenges they encounter on a daily basis. He said he is prepared to bring in peers and partners from industry and government when another resource is a better fit, with the aim of aligning available capabilities to support national defense.
“I’m here to help any way I can,” he said.
On a professional level, Lampert said he plans to keep developing as a leader and to mentor, coach and build up the colleagues he works with.
What Is GreyNoise Intelligence?
GreyNoise is a cybersecurity company that provides threat intelligence designed to help security teams identify and prioritize internet-wide attack activity targeting network edge systems. The company operates the Global Observation Grid, a deception network of over 5,000 sensors deployed across more than 80 countries that observe and classify attack activity in real time.
GreyNoise recently launched a command-and-control detection capability that flags communications between compromised assets and adversary-controlled infrastructure to give federal agencies earlier visibility into potential breaches.
