Microsoft Awarded $170M Air Force Task Order to Support Cloud One

Microsoft has secured a $170.4 million task order to continue supporting the Cloud One program, a cornerstone of the Department of the Air Force’s enterprise cloud strategy.

What Does Microsoft’s Cloud One Task Order Cover?

The firm-fixed-price task order, issued by the U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center as a sole-source award, calls for Microsoft Azure cloud service offerings to support Air Force customers across the enterprise, the Department of War said Wednesday. Work will be performed at contractor-designated facilities across the contiguous United States and is scheduled to run through Dec. 7, 2028. Fiscal 2026 operations and maintenance funding totaling approximately $1.9 million is being obligated at the time of award.Microsoft Awarded $170M Air Force Task Order to Support Cloud One

How Does Cloud One Support Air Force Missions?

Cloud One operates as a multi-cloud, multi-vendor environment managed by the AFLCMC, giving mission application owners access to secure computing environments, standardized platforms and migration support. The platform operates across Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. During migration to Cloud One, each application undergoes a tailored analysis to ensure it is placed with the most effective provider.

An Air Force official has previously described Cloud One as foundational to the Digital Air Force and future multi-domain operations, enabling agile software development, automation and faster transitions from development to production.

The platform is designed to help the service modernize legacy systems, improve collaboration and reduce the operational burden of managing underlying IT infrastructure.

Why Does Microsoft’s Role Matter to Cloud One?

Microsoft has been a longstanding cloud partner to the Air Force, supporting collaboration, productivity and application modernization through Azure Government and Microsoft 365 Government offerings. Those platforms are designed to meet stringent defense security standards, including Impact Level 5 requirements.

By leveraging Microsoft’s cloud services within Cloud One, the Air Force aims to provide global access, scalability and resilience while allowing airmen and development teams to focus on mission execution rather than infrastructure management.
