NASA Issues CLPS 2.0 Solicitation for Lunar Delivery

NASA’s Johnson Space Center has released a sources sought notice to solicit industry feedback for potential contractors capable of fulfilling the requirements of the Commercial Lunar Payload Services, or CLPS, 2.0 contract.

What Is Commercial Lunar Payload Services 2.0 Contract?

According to the request for information published Monday on SAM.gov, the CLPS 2.0 solicitation will serve as a follow-on to NASA’s existing CLPS contracts, which restricted competition to domestic providers offering U.S.-manufactured space vehicles, including landers and transporters. Feedback from this process will help NASA determine the appropriate acquisition strategy. Interested firms may submit their responses by Feb. 5.

What Is the CLPS 2.0 Contract For?

The contract aims to support the safe integration, transportation and operation of NASA-sponsored payloads using contractor-furnished capabilities, including launch vehicles, lunar landers, lunar surface systems, Earth re-entry vehicles and related resources.

What Are the Latest CLPS Contract Developments at NASA?

NASA’s CLPS program continues to expand its commercial lunar delivery efforts, with recent contract awards advancing missions to the Moon’s south pole. Intuitive Machines secured a roughly $116.9 million CLPS task order to deliver six scientific payloads to the lunar south pole in 2027. Additionally, Firefly Aerospace booked a $177 million CLPS contract to deliver five NASA-sponsored payloads—including rovers and instruments—to the south pole in 2029 using its Blue Ghost lander system.
