US Forest Service Opens On-Ramp for Type 3 Helicopter Support Services Contract

The U.S. Forest Service has launched a new on-ramp opportunity under the multiple-award task order contract, or MATOC, for Type 3 Helicopter Support Services.

USFS Type 3 Helicopter Contract Details

According to a proposal solicitation posted on SAM.gov, USFS intends to acquire helicopters for the protection of public lands and to support natural resources and wildland fire management programs.

The required helicopters must comply with Type 3 requirements, including the capability to carry loads of up to 7,000 pounds. They will be used to carry out fire suppression, fire monitoring, initial attack, prescribed fire and aerial ignition, rappelling, law enforcement, and surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

USFS intends to award multiple Firm-Fixed-Price, Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite-Quantity contracts with a one-year base period and nine 12-month options for the helicopters. Proposals are due Oct. 31.

Previous US Forest Service Contract for Helicopter Support

The ramp-on opportunity follows USFS’s awarding of Type 2 helicopter support services contracts to 38 offerors in October 2024. The potential $3.5 billion award, a result of a full and open competition, provides the agency with helicopters weighing over 12,501 pounds to carry out natural resources and wildland fire management programs.

USFS also selected 44 vendors to provide Type 2 helicopters weighing between 7,000 pounds and 12,501 pounds under contracts, worth up to $1.5 billion, awarded in August 2023.
