Raytheon Wins $580.6M Navy Contract for Next-Gen Jammers

The U.S. Navy has awarded Raytheon a contract valued at $580.6 million to manufacture and deliver Lot V of the Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band, or NGJ MB, ship sets. The low-rate initial production contract will enable the Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force, or RAAF, to decide on a potential full-rate production, the Department of Defense said Thursday.

Work on the contract will be performed in Forest, Mississippi; McKinney, Texas; and other sites across the contiguous United States until November 2028.

The Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Maryland, serves as the contracting activity.

What is Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band?

NGJ MB is expected to provide military vessels with aerial jamming capability to deny, disrupt and degrade enemy technologies such as communication and air defense systems. According to RTX, the system can operate at enhanced ranges and engage with multiple targets simultaneously.

The electronic attack platform is designed to be installed on the E/A-18 Growler.

Raytheon also secured a Navy contract worth $192 million in September 2024 to design, develop, manufacture, integrate, demonstrate and test the NGJ MB extended capability. The award is aimed at expanding the frequency coverage of the advanced electronic attack system to address additional threats.

The Next Generation Jammer program is a joint initiative of the Department of Defense and the Australian Department of Defence.
