The new Ursa Major VP served as the chief of staff and senior adviser to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition & Sustainment. Prior to that, Swartout spent over five years at MITRE. He was the director of strategic initiatives and national security policy and senior principal for the national security sector.
Swartout also served in the U.S. Air Force, most recently as the chief of staff to the Acting Secretary of the Air Force. He was also the senior adviser to the Secretary of the Air Force and the Under Secretary of the Air Force, and chief of staff to the Under Secretary of the Air Force.
He briefly served as the spokesperson for the Secretary of Defense confirmation and transition team at the Immediate Office of the Secretary of Defense.
The executive was with the Office of the Secretary of Defense for nearly five years. He held several critical roles, including spokesperson for the Deputy Secretary of Defense, director of the Office of Communication, Planning and Integration, and director of the Office of Joint Communication.
Swartout was the director of government relations at Finsbury Glover Hering and associate director for the Truman National Security Project.
