The Department of Defense said Thursday the contract work will be conducted in Pueblo, Colorado and will run through April 3, 2026. The Army Contracting Command in Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois, will obligate the full amount from the Army’s fiscal year 2015 research, development, test and evaluation funds at the time of the award.
In 2022, Bechtel was awarded a $759 million deal to close the chemical destruction facility in the Pueblo Chemical Depot. Under the initial contract, expected to be completed by March 30, 2026, the company was tasked with safely handling the destruction of chemical weapons.
Bechtel has been handling the destruction of chemical weapons at the depot since 2015. This includes the safe and secure destruction of mustard agent in artillery projectiles and mortar rounds.
