“We spun out SnapAttack because we believe in the power of dual-use technology to speed outcomes,” said Booz Allen Chief Financial Officer Matt Calderone said in a statement published Wednesday.
“When great products scale in the commercial market, their benefit expands across our government missions as well. This is an excellent outcome for all involved and we look forward to continuing to work with the SnapAttack team,” added Calderone.
In December, Cisco agreed to acquire SnapAttack to expand Splunk’s security capabilities and provide customers and security operations centers with an enhanced threat detection, investigation and response platform.
How Did SnapAttack Come About?
In 2020, the Booz Allen DarkLabs organization launched SnapAttack to consolidate threat intelligence, incident detection and response and risk mitigation processes into a single offering.
The cyber threat hunting and detection company leveraged Booz Allen’s intellectual property, commercial partnerships and advanced technology capabilities to drive growth and help clients keep ahead of threats and address cybersecurity gaps.
In 2021, Booz Allen separated the cloud-based cybersecurity product development unit into an independent entity and retained a minority interest in the business.
As a spinout, SnapAttack operated with a dedicated technical team and offered a product that advanced community collaboration on attack emulation, threat intelligence and detection analytics to help detect cyber risks and other vulnerabilities.
