BAE Systems will manufacture and deliver additional self-propelled howitzers and carrier ammunition-tracked vehicles to the U.S. Army under a $418 million contract.
The company said the order brings the total value of a previously awarded contract for M109A7 howitzers and M992A3 CAT platforms to $2.5 billion and extends vehicle deliveries through 2025.
Work will occur at the Anniston Army Depot in Alabama and BAE locations in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Michigan, New York, Oklahoma and South Carolina.
The M109A7 howitzer is the latest offering in BAE’s M109 family of vehicles that provides indirect fire support for armored brigade combat teams and incorporates a new chassis, high voltage architecture, engine, transmission, suspension and steering system.
“The battlefield is constantly changing, but the ABCT can feel assured in the indirect fire support capability this vehicle provides,” said Dan Furber, director of ground vehicle production for BAE’s combat mission systems business.
BAE’s land and armaments business unit initially received a $133.6 million contract in April 2017 to obtain materials needed for the ground vehicles’ production.
