Chontos will oversee the El Segundo, California-headquartered aerospace and defense company’s legal, ethics, regulatory and international trade compliance functions, Aerojet Rocketdyne said Thursday.
He started as a deputy general counsel at the company in 2018 and was appointed to take on the role of general counsel on an acting basis in April.
The legal professional previously served as division counsel at Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) and VP and general counsel at General Dynamics‘ (NYSE: GD) Electric Boat subsidiary.
Chontos joined the private sector after his service as a legal officer within the U.S. Army Office of the General Counsel.
