Slingshot Aerospace Buys Numerica’s Space Division, Seradata; Melanie Stricklan Quoted

Slingshot Aerospace has purchased Numerica’s space domain awareness division and Seradata for an undisclosed sum as part of efforts to further advance space sustainability by delivering space traffic coordination and space situational awareness platforms to launch providers and satellite operators.

The SDA division of Numerica brings to Slingshot Aerospace its team of software engineers, research scientists, applied mathematicians and orbital analysts and optical sensor network designed to track satellites, debris and other space objects, Slingshot said Wednesday.

Slingshot will continue to run and expand Numerica’s SDA offices in Colorado.

Numerica said it will continue to operate its air and missile defense divisions and invest in its product line, including its MIMIR C2 software and Spyglass short-range surveillance radar.

U.K.-based Seradata will provide Slingshot access to the former’s SpaceTrak satellite and launch database and an opportunity to expand its presence in the European market.

Melanie Stricklan, co-founder and CEO of Slingshot Aerospace, said the capabilities of Seradata and Numerica will enable the company to create a unified platform meant to help customers improve their abilities to monitor, optimize and simulate their spaceflight operations.

“In addition to more than tripling the size of our team over the last year, we are rocketing forward with this game-changing suite of products that enable a more sustainable and responsible approach to space operations today and in the future,” Stricklan added.

Slingshot said it expects the two acquisitions to help speed up the development of its Slingshot Digital Space Twin and Slingshot Beacon, the company’s space traffic coordination system.
