The Air Force Research Laboratory has released a two-step broad agency announcement for the second iteration of a multiple-award contract vehicle for materials research and survivability studies.
AFRL estimates the cost of its MaRSS II program to reach $98.7 million and seeks vendors to submit white papers on how to advance photonic materials used in aircraft components, sensors, structures and systems, according to the solicitation notice posted on SAM.gov.
The laboratory plans to award multiple indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract spots for research into methods to identify and simulate photonic structure and properties, create formulations and performance, and produce related test materials.
Technical areas of interest under the program include optical technology and materials, non-linear electromagnetic materials and processing, photonic materials, laser component technology and effects mitigation.
The new contract will have a total performance period of 87 months and an ordering period of 60 months.
General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), UES and Azimuth were awarded positions on the MaRSS contract in October 2015 with a ceiling value of $121.1 million.
White papers for the follow-on program are due Jan. 18 and contract awards could occur in July, according to the notice.
