An MWH Constructors business was awarded a potential $93.8 million contract for fabrication and installation of multiple enclosures at the U.S. Navy’s Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine.
Under the firm-fixed-price contract, Methuen Construction will build the PNS Dry Dock Two complex that will have both permanent and relocatable enclosures consisting of towers, bridge cranes, movable roofs, controls and communications and other associated systems, the Department of Defense said Monday.
The contractor could also be assigned new utility capacity and infrastructure work as well as modifications to existing enclosure systems and utilities.
Methuen Construction will perform contract responsibilities through October 2023 at the Navy’s shipyard that is tasked with the maintenance, repair and overhaul of submarines.
The contract has a $63 million base value and six options that would raise it to its ceiling amount, if exercised. The Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command will obligate the contract’s base amount to Methuen Construction from the fiscal 2021 operation and maintenance contract funds.
The award to Methuen Construction was made a week after it was acquired by MWH in an effort to strengthen the latter’s market position.
