L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) has received a $393 million contract to install the second and third increments of underwater training infrastructure for the U.S. Navy.
The company said Wednesday it will modernize and replace systems at three Undersea Warfare Training Range sites near Southern California, the Bahamas and Hawaii.
For the USWTR Increment I effort, L3Harris installed shore electronics subsystems and an ocean sensor near Jacksonville, Florida, as part of a $127 million initial contract the Navy awarded to the legacy L-3 Communications company in 2012.
Christopher Kubasik, CEO of L3Harris and a three-time Wash100 Award recipient, said the company completed the first USWTR increment two years ahead of schedule and will continue its efforts to provide sailors early access to undersea range technology.
Ships, underwater vessels and aircraft undergo anti-submarine warfare training at USWTRs, which offer shore-based control facilities and over 600 miles of acoustic sensors and undersea cables.
