Northrop Grumman will supply more precision guidance kits to the U.S. Army under a three-year, $167.8 million contract modification.
The company received the full amount of the modification award from the service branch and will perform work in Plymouth, Minnesota, the Department of Defense said Monday.
ATK originally received a prime contract for PGK production services in 2013 and merged with Orbital Sciences in 2015 to form Orbital ATK. Northrop inherited the work after its 2018 acquisition of Orbital ATK .
PGK technology is designed to transform conventional artillery and mortar munition fuzes into weapons that help military personnel engage targets while cutting the risk of collateral damage, according to Northrop.
An Army portfolio document says the guidance system can integrate with 155mm M795 and M549A1 high-explosive projectiles.
