She will be responsible for directing clinical support and medical management work and ensuring care delivery to beneficiaries under the Defense Health Agency’s TRICARE contract, the company said Thursday.
“My expertise in clinical payment innovation and my on-the-ground experiences working closely with providers in value-based care will support the Humana Military team as we partner with DHA to transform the care for the TRICARE population towards the Quadruple Aim,” Mesiwala said.
The physician executive most recently served as senior medical director of value-based care and innovation at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Health Plan.
During her two-year stint at the White House, Mesiwala helped the National Economic Council establish a public-private partnership focused on kidney care and organ transplant services and a national collaborative effort among providers to address health industry workforce challenges
She previously worked as a medical officer and a senior adviser at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation from 2011 to 2015.
