General Electric‘s (NYSE: GE) aviation segment will manufacture 21 turboshaft engines for the fifth batch of lot 5 CH-53K King Stallion helicopters under a $101.5M contract modification from the U.S. Navy.
GE Aviation will receive the full amount at the time of award and also provide programmatic and logistics support services for the T408-GE-400 aircraft engines, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.
Work will take place in Lynn, Massachusetts, through December 2024.
The company initially secured a $143.5M contract in November 2017 to deliver 22 engines to the service branch for lot 1 and lot 2 CH-53K LRIP efforts.
According to GE, the T408 is a 7.5K-shaft horsepower-class engine designed to help King Stallion helicopters carry 27K-pound external loads over a mission radius of 110 nautical miles in hot weather conditions.
The engine has logged more than 6K testing hours that include CH-53K flight tests.
