Charles Stark Draper Laboratory has been awarded a $133.5M U.S. Navy contract modification to continue guidance technology research efforts related to the Common Missile Compartment for U.S. Columbia-class and U.K. Dreadnought-class submarines.
Draper will also provide technical support for the hypersonic application of guidance, navigation and control systems to support the two countries' underwater vessel development programs, the Department of Defense said Friday.
DoD added the nonprofit organization will work on GNC equipment for use in Navy hypersonic flight demonstrations.
The Navy Strategic Systems Programs in Washington, D.C. will obligate $30M from the service branch on an incremental basis and another $5.6M from the British government at the time of the award.
Eighty-one percent of work will take place in Massachusetts and the remaining 19 percent will occur in New York.
The Pentagon expects Draper to complete services under the modification by Sept. 30, 2021.
