President Donald Trump on Friday signed into law the fiscal year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, which authorizes the creation of the Space Force as the sixth military branch.
A White House news release published Friday says the potential $738B NDAA includes a 12-week parental leave for federal civilian employees, pay increase for service personnel, FY 2020 appropriations for the Pentagons national security programs and equipment modernization for service branches.
The law also directs the director of national intelligence to form a supply chain and counterintelligence task force; sets a deadline on the nomination of a member to the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board; and authorizes the appointment of a senior technical authority for each naval vessel class.
The Senate on Tuesday voted 86-8 to pass the defense policy bill.
