Leonardo DRS Receives $89M Follow-On Army Order for IR Sighting Devices

Leonardo DRS will continue to manufacture infrared weapon sighting technology for helmet-mounted vision systems under a $89M follow-on delivery order from the U.S. Army.

The company said Tuesday its electro-optical infrared systems business produces the military branch’s Family of Weapon Sight-Individual as part of an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.

FWS-I is a clip-on device that works to help soldiers acquire targets even through smoke or fog, DRS noted.

Production of the technology is scheduled to continue over the next four years at a company facility in Melbourne, Fla.
