McAleese & Associates: DoD Officials Discuss Missile Defense Priorities at Senate Hearing

Consulting firm McAleese & Associates has released a report on military defense programs as discussed by Pentagon officials at the Senate Armed Services strategic forces subcommittee hearing Wednesday.

John Rood, defense undersecretary for policy; Air Force Gen. Terrence O™Shaughnessy, commander of Northern Command; Lt. Gen. Sam Greaves, director of the Missile Defense Agency; and Lt. Gen. James Dickinson, head of Army Space and Missile Defense Command; appeared before the Senate subpanel to discuss primary MDA programs for fiscal year 2020, Jim McAleese, founder and principal at McAleese & Associates, wrote in the report.

Some of those programs include the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense system with new reliable kill vehicle; hypersonic defense; long-range discrimination radar; and ballistic missile defense-terminal segment.

Greaves discussed the potential role of the Space Development Agency in providing a space-based sensor layer capability as well as the FTG-11 GMD œSalvo flight test.

MDA also plans to build three new Pacific radars: LRDR; Homeland Defense Radar-Hawaii; and future Pacific discriminating radar, noted McAleese, a 2019 Wash100 winner.

Other programs discussed at the hearing include directed energy/boost phase intercept priorities such as laser scaling; beam control; and power generation, the report added.
