August 24th Market Close: GovConIndex Closes Up While Major Indices Close Down


In reverse of major US markets, The Executive Mosaic GovCon Index (GCI) closed up on the day to 99.847; a gain of 0.060 percent. Advancing and declining shares almost evenly split.

The major indices closed down slightly for the second consecutive day. The S&P500 retreated by 0.21 percent to 2,438.97, while DJIA moved down by 0.13 percent to  21,783.40, and the NASDAQ Composite closed down by 0.11 percent to 6,271.33.

Crude oil reversed its two days positive direction to close down today. WTI on the NY Mercantile Exchange ended the day negative 1.63 percent to $47.62 per barrel.
