The State Department has given Romania the go-ahead to buy High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, other military equipment and related services from the U.S. government under a potential $1.25 billion foreign military sales agreement.
Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) is listed as the prime contractor for the transaction that covers HIMARS launchers, Guided-Multiple Launch Rocket Systems, M1151A1 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles and Army tactical missile platforms, the Defense Security Cooperation Agencysaid Friday.
HIMARS resupply vehicles, cargo trailers, vehicle wreckers, practice rockets, communications equipment, facility design, technical assistance and quality assurance personnel, training support, spare and repair parts, logistics, systems integration and other program support services are also covered in the FMS deal.
Romania aims to build up its homeland defense, modernize its armed forces and counter regional threats through the transaction.
The FMS deal calls for the designation of up to 10 contractor and government representatives to Romania to provide training, logistics, system checkout and equipment deployment support over a one-year period.
